The Hoyt Coal Weigh Station
The Hoyt Coal Weigh Station is behind and to the right of the Old Schoolhouse. Inside, various farm implements can be found, and we also have the old scale that was used to weigh the coal wagons, which was first done without coal and then again with coal to determine how much was being delivered. After the first weighing, the driver would go to one of several piles of coal and take which ever size he desired. A worker would shovel the coal onto a screen and then the coal would get shoveled from the screen into the wagon. A simpler time can be found in this small building, when hard work was the only way you could make a living. See examples from all of the businesses that used to call Dundee home, and try to imagine what it must have been like.
There are two small exhibits located in the weigh station: one on the berry industry of Yates County and one on the dairy industry. Ask us and we'll take you out to see it!
